On April 15, 2023, Nathan's Papers will host the Authors of the American Revolution Congress, a program with author talks and book signings focused on the American Revolution and foundations of American governing at the Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Authors’ Congress is designed to promote discussion and debate about the American Revolutionary War and Founding, encourage greater understanding about this important moment in the nation’s history, and connect authors and scholars with the local community. The theme for this event is The Sword and the Pen: Those Who Fought and Those Who Tell Their Story.
The Spring 2023 Authors of the American Revolution Congress will be chaired by Kiersten Marcil. Kiersten is the author of The Enlightened series. The first book, “Witness to the Revolution,” was published in December 2022.
Kiersten hails from New England and is ridiculously proud of her family’s deep-rooted history in our nation’s foundation. She is a Mayflower descendant of Governor William Bradford (c. Mar. 19, 1590 – May 09, 1657) and great-granddaughter (several generations removed, of course) of several Patriots from America’s Revolutionary War.
Growing up, the Battlefields of Saratoga were her backyard and tourist sites like Fort Ticonderoga were an easy day trip, and Kiersten couldn’t have cared less back then. It wasn’t until journeying into adulthood that Kiersten grew to love books, and even then, not until she became a museum educator, that she discovered the fascinating world of history. It was from working as a research assistant for a book about the Constitutional Convention of 1787, however, that her fascination with the Revolutionary War flourished.
